Train Presentation

As an Onboard Cleaner (OBC), you play a vital role in making our trains shine - ensuring a delightful travel experience for our customers and the everyday function of our network.

OBC’s are tasked with the duties to maintain, clean and create a comfortable environment for our customers.
Tasks involve sanitising the trains, removing litter and bins from units and responding to network wide biohazard issues that arise in our everyday operational day. Working from Monday to Sunday, you’ll be on the front lines of customer satisfaction, bringing your knowledge of the network to connect with our customers.

With colleagues boasting over 20 years of experience, and continuing to develop new team members,
we’re all about teamwork and continuous development to keep our fleet and our team fresh.

Meet Maria, On-Board Cleaner

“Primarily, the role of an On-Board Cleaner is to keep the trains maintained to a high standard. Cleanliness and presentation are something the company strongly strives for. There is also a great element of customer service to our job - something which I really enjoy! Greeting passengers and assisting them on their journey means each day is different. It is essential to have a can-do attitude. There is a strong sense of ‘team’ within the company meaning a colleague and manager is always available when needed. The great benefits we receive as Merseyrail staff means it really is a job for life. I myself have worked at the company for the last 11 years and I’m proud to be part of the team. Merseyrail offers great job security and room to grow.”

Meet Carol, On-Board Cleaner

“I have worked for Merseyrail for 9 years and enjoy my job. In my role as an On-Board Cleaner, I get to travel out to different stations and meet with the public which I enjoy. There are lots of perks working for Merseyrail like Health Shield cover and rewards vouchers. All the On-Board Cleaners are a lovely team, and this makes coming to work a pleasure.”

Meet Ste, On-Board Cleaner

“I have been in this role for 16 years - why don't you come and join us? I have had many of opportunities to move up the ladder, but I find the role I'm doing rewarding and enjoyable. It can be challenging at times, but you always work in a team, so everything is in hand and in control. You get to meet many interesting people when you are out and about, and each day is never the same. The pay is good, railway pension benefits and good holidays. If you're looking for a new start, or maybe a change, I would advise you to give us ago. I'm confident you will not be disappointed.”
